Case Study: How an OKC Dealer Increased Service Drive VSC Sales 12× While Beta Testing Cuvrd App

Background

A three-rooftop Oklahoma City-based automotive dealership group had long underutilized its service drive for Vehicle Service Contract (VSC) sales—averaging only 2 per month per store. Most coverage was sold during initial vehicle purchases through the F&I department, leaving a major opportunity untapped in fixed ops.

Challenge

Management wanted to increase VSC sales from the service lane but ran into the following challenges:

  • Advisors lacked a quick and easy way to generate personalized quotes.

  • Service appointments moved fast—especially during AM drop-off, leaving little time for complex sales pitches.

  • Service department lacked training and infrastructure for VSC sales, consumers interested in a VSC had to be routed to F&I to buy which introduced friction.

  • Most customers were unable to pay in full, and financing options were cumbersome to execute.

Solution

This dealership group was invited to participate as a beta tester for the Cuvrd VIN Scanner mobile app—a tool designed specifically to help service departments sell VSCs faster and more efficiently outside of F&I. The dealership group assigned a single store to participate in the Cuvrd app beta test.

Using the Cuvrd app, service advisors were able to:

After months of real-world feedback and refinement, the app is now officially in production, and available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Implementation

To ensure a successful test, the Dealer rollout included:

  • Training — Service drive staff were required to attend app training as well as provide usage feedback.

  • Staff buy-in — Advisors earned a significant spiff for every VSC sale using the app.

  • Usage requirements — Advisors required to present VSC options to customers on qualifying vehicles.

  • Targeted vehicles — Limits were placed on vehicle mileage, condition, and class to ensure reinsurance profits remained steady.

Results

Within 60 days of implementation:

  • VSC sales in the service drive increased 1,100%, going from 2 to 24 per month.

  • Over 70% of customers chose the 36-monthly payment option.

  • Advisors were able to offer coverage without slowing down their workflow

  • Customers were sent offers via text and email prior to pickup, and again in person during post-service inspection

  • The service team became a consistent contributor to backend gross profit.

The app is ridiculously easy to use — it's like finding a bag of money every month.

Conclusion

By participating in the beta program for the Cuvrd app, the dealership helped shape a solution that is now available to dealers everywhere.
